Annual Meeting Information

The gates are closed on another fabulous swim season at Kent Gardens Recreation Club. Swimsuits, towels and goggles hanging by our back doors have now been replaced by backpacks and sports equipment. The 2022 summer was a great one at KGRC with winning swim and dive teams, fun social events and plenty of lazy days and evenings sitting with friends poolside. We hope everyone enjoyed their time at the club!

It’s time now for the entire pool membership to gather virtually for our Annual General Membership Meeting:

Active members will have the opportunity to vote on a slate of candidates for the Board of Directors, including new candidates. In addition, you can hear the “State of the Pool” which includes a report on the Club’s finances, update on the facilities, hear the Board’s plans for 2023 and beyond, and solicit input for the coming season. Members will also review and vote on the draft minutes of last year’s Annual General Meeting (available HERE).

Your participation in the meeting is important and imperative. If you are not able to attend the virtual meeting, please register right away to vote by proxy. We need a quorum in order to vote. Please complete the proxy form HERE. We do hope you will be able to join us on Zoom.

KGRC presently has an 11-member Board, with five positions up for election this year.  First, there are three board members rolling off this year. Chris Wood, Claudia Tielking and me. Chris has been the Club’s treasurer for over 5 years and has been keeping all of the club’s finances in order. In addition, Chris has also been an integral part of establishing our Capital Improvement Fund and saving for future needs.

Also finishing up her last term on the board is one of our Dive Representatives, Claudia Tielking. Claudia has been on the Board for 7 years and has helped to lead the dive team from Division 5 to Division 1!

After joining the Board of Directors in 2013, I served as the Social Secretary, Vice President and then as the Board President for the last several years. I am also finishing my final term.

We are fortunate that three KGRC community members have stepped up to stand for election to serve on the Board: Annie Batdorf, Karen Denniston and Amy Spielhagen.  Many of you know Annie, Karen, and Amy from all the hours they already spend on the pool deck, and we are excited that they will bring their commitment to the KGRC community to the Board.

In addition, two Board members are completing their terms and have graciously agreed to stand for re-election to another term: Caryn Margita and Will Shields.  And finally, six Board Members are continuing the second year of their terms:  Lauren Braccia, Holly Cafer, Bryan Goudie, Kara Horgan, Bethany Nguyen, and Michael Wittman.

We are excited to have a full Board ready to prepare for the next season ahead. That said, we are always looking for assistance and ideas for events, planning for the future and more.  Please contact any Board member if you are interested in rolling up your sleeves to help.

Finally, we are thrilled to announce that our KGRC Winter Swim & Dive program will be back, and once again held at Yorktown High School.  We will meet on Sunday mornings beginning September 25 and running through May 7.  There is 1 session of Winter Swim from 9-10 and two sessions of Winter Dive from either 9-10 or 10-11am.  Click here to register now!  And feel free to share this information with friends and neighbors – unlike the summer programs, you do NOT have to be a KGRC pool member to participate in the winter programs!
