KGRC Renovation Planning
The KGRC Board of Directors established a special committee to focus on planning necessary renovations for our pool and facilities. Our pool was built in 1957 and has been well maintained ever since. However, the pool is beyond its estimated duration of use, 50 years, and is in need of major renovations. We are in the early stages of planning and will provide additional information on this page throughout the planning process.
Please contact renovation@kentgardens.org with any questions or if you would like to get involved in the planning process.
Construction began on October 14th 2025. Enjoy the pictures below and stay tuned for progress updates.
The following renderings represent the latest design of the renovated pools.
Current Information Regarding the Renovation Planning
Why do we need a new pool?
Our pool was built in 1957 and now at 66 years old is beyond its estimated 50-year useful life. The KGRC Board has maintained the pool well over the years including a complete replacement of the pool deck in 1987, renovation of the bath house in 2011, and most recently a new white coat and coping stones in 2020. However, the fundamental pool and plumbing system are in need of replacement and many aspects of our facilities are no longer aligned with updated safety and building code requirements, such as the dimension of the dive well and accessibility requirements.
Given KGRC facilities’ age and current state, the Board is growing increasingly concerned that, with the passage of time, we run the risk of jeopardizing a summer season with the need for a major repair. Since we are a membership organization and our club’s financial viability relies on annual dues, the pool facilities’ failure could result in severe financial issues for the club.
What is the purpose of the Renovation Planning Committee?
The KGRC Board of Directors established the Renovation Planning Committee with the objective to gather information, identify needs and priorities, develop a comprehensive plan, and oversee the execution of a renovation that improves KGRC’s safety, facilities, and amenities, ensuring it serves current and future members and the McLean community.
What were the results of the member survey?
A member survey was conducted in 2023 to gather input from current members on the use of the pool and potential features of the renovation.

Will we lose a season at the pool due to the renovation?
No, the renovation will occur during the off season.
When will the renovation occur?
We are working toward a schedule of renovations occurring during the offseason from September 2025 through May 2026.
How will the renovation be funded?
The renovation will be funded with a combination of existing funds, a special assessment on current members, financing, a special assessment moving forward for future members, and an increase in annual dues.
Can you provide more information about the special assessment?
The Renovation Planning Committee has explored options for funding the project and has arrived at an approach that combines existing funding, financing, and a special assessment to raise the funds required for the project.
The special assessment will provide funds to the renovation budget, in concert with existing funds, to limit the amount required to be financed in order to establish a debt servicing amount annually that can be supported by regular dues.
The special assessment will be $1,000 and will be required to be paid by all voting members in order to be eligible to renew their membership for the 2026 season. The special assessment will be able to be paid in three installments during the offseason on 11/1/25, 2/1/26, and 4/1/26.
The equivalent amount of the special assessment will also be collected from new members in their 2nd and 3rd year of membership. This will be in addition to the existing initiation fee.
